Melanie just released her debut album The Bridge in Canada just last week entering the Soundscan charts at #25  selling 1771 copies. She recently reported that The Bridge will be released in the U.K. on July 27th and in the U.S. on September 22nd. Melanie will be joining Questlove to release a mixtape called Melanie Fiona meets The Illadelphonics (A Live Remix Jam Session of the Bridge) later today. “Ay Yo” is one of the tracks will be featured on the mixtape. Since it’s a live and remixed version, it definitely give you a 70′s soulful feel. Melanie is even rapping on the track too. Who knew that she could spit.  Peep the track and enjoy!

Sunday July 5th, Rock The Bells stopped in Toronto at the Molson Amphitheatre where many big hip hop artists performed. Unfortunately I didn’t make it out but I heard great things about the event especially Nas. Thanks  forzaferrarif1fan via Youtube, I found some footage from Nas’ set at Rock The Bells. Nas performed some of his classics songs including “The World is Yours,” “If I Ruled The World” and “Hip Hip is Dead”. Peep the footage.

Side note: Anyone who attended the event, can you please tell me what the eff Mos Def was doing at the show?

Live Performances: Solange “Valentine’s Day” at Heavens in London

Solange was out in London a little over a month ago, and she performed my favourite song “Valentine’s Day” off her last album Sol-Angel & the Hadley St. Dreams. Ever since I bought her album in September, I have been hooked on it. Solange presented a side of her that most haven’t seen. She is more creative, vibrant and of course, soulful. Not only do I feel that she is an wonderful singer but she is an amazing songwriter. Her visions and passion with her music is out of of this world. Unfortunately, Solange hasn’t made her way to Toronto yet and when she does, I will be there!!  Peep the live performance. If you like Solange, you will definitely like Melanie Fiona.

Side note: I LOVE live bands.

I first brought you Trish a few months ago and now she is back with her second video “Bump”. The music video is directed by Marc Andre Debrunye consisting of cool nightvision shots and some outrageous dance moves.. (How does she do that?) “Bump” has been my track for a HOT minute and it always gets me in the mood to pose and dance. Trish has a lot in the works and I’m super anxious to see what she will be doing next. Peep the video.

Drake dropped a new track earlier last week called “Think Good Thoughts” featuring Phonte & Elzhi which is produced by 9th Wonder. This track is beyond dope as Drake killed this beat. It is NOW listed as one my favorite tracks of the moment. So what’s Young, Fresh & New? Drake “Think Good Thoughts”

Side Note: Can you guess the song that 9th Wonder sampled?

    ————————————–

After erupting onto the music scene last year with his Don’t Holla EP, Tona is no freshman to the mic & stage. Sharing the stage with acts like Nas, Method Man/Red Man, Black Milk, Lupe Fiasco, and more, Tona brings his lyrical skills to the forefront, met with Lyve’s hard hitting production, to their new project Direct Deposit available today.

“The project was titled Direct Deposit,”Tona explains, “because the same way people wait for their paychecks every 2 weeks, they’ve been waiting for this project…This is a Direct Deposit in the form of music, from Tona & Lyve to the people.”

Available in stores across Canada today (HMV,Circuit City etc), & digitally through all major online distributors worldwide (itunes, amazon, etc) through E1 Music, the project is laced with songs produced by Lyve & features the likes of Skyzoo, Saukrates, and more.

When asked how he felt about being a part of Direct Deposit, Lyve says, “It’s a great feeling to work with people who are passionate about what they do and are actually good at it! I’m really excited about the oppurtunity and I want people to make note of the fact that they shouldn’t wait for a co sign to give something an ear, instead they should strive to be that co sign!”

Tona is one of those rare talents that are hard to find; the full package of lyric, style, and song writing excellence. Direct Deposit hits hard in your speaker and takes you to a place where music is classic.
