One of my FAVORITE DJs – DJ Baby Yu from Toronto who is now out in the ATL released his latest mixtape in his tribute to the greatest rapper of all time and his favourite rapper – Notorious B.I.G.  DJ Baby Yu warned me about this mixtape last week and quoted “If you don’t understand or appreciate this mixtape, I will quit DJing and from MUSIC period!”  I’ve been a major fan of DJ Baby Yu for a while and he never fails me with his mixtapes. I am actually listening to the mixtape now, and just looking at the tracklisting makes me feel like a kid at the candy store.This mixtape filled with some of Biggie’s greatest hits and some classics as well as the original tracks used to create some of the biggest songs. A few days ago, I got a chance to listen to this upcoming rapper J Cole who is currently signed to Jay-z’ Roc Nation. Jermaine Cole aka J Cole, a native of North Carolina recently released his mixtape – (The Warm Up To) The Warm Up. Now you know if Jay-z co-signs someone, this person has to be HUGE. And you are right! J Cole is NEXT up. In a recent interview with Complex Magazine, he starting rapping at the age of 12 with a similar style to Master P. Blake Carrington has been a man on a mission. From rapping to host parties to being a socialite in Toronto, it’s hard to keep up with his fresh hair cut and unique fashion sense inspired by the early 90′s. He most recently released his mixtape called Welcome To My World which features 24 tracks mixed with solid songs, dubs and freestyle. The mixtape is executive produced by Ron D  and mixed by JESTER. One track that caught my full attention is “Dream Girl”, an electro feel which screams inspiration from Kanye’s 808s and Heartbreak.  This will not be the last you will hear about Blake. Last week I received a link to check out an album by L.A. emcee Diz Gizbran called Soon You’ll Understand. which is presented by Crooks & Castles. The album was released on April 7th is available to download for free on his website diznmoon.com.

Diz Gibran’s lyricism is beyond crazy if you ask me. He keeps each track consistent while he displays a solid form of what hip hop is about. You think hip hop is dead, well think again because Diz Gibran is among many others who are here to stay. The production and lyrics of “Impossible,” “The Hardest Word” and “Just Me” caught my ears right away. The whole album is produced by Queens, NY newcomer Moonshine who is definitely on the come up to keep hip hop alive! Hopefully after you download the album – you will understand what he is talking about!

As for upcoming projects, Diz Gibran is working on shooting music videos, doing some remixes and performing all over the country. Please DO NOT sleep on this guy! Keep your ears and eyes on both Diz Gibran and Moonshine.

Bussa Bust has been preparing the release of his eighth album Back On My B.S. which comes out two weeks from today. He just released his mixtape I Bullshit You Not featuring all original production from DJ Scratch. This prelude mixtape features collaborations with Spliff Star, Maino, Show Money, Raekwon, Reek, Uncle Murda and Lil Fame. Kim Davis -  one of the biggest unsigned r&b artists in Toronto has released her first mixtape “Live, Love, Learn”. It features her bangers “Hush”, “Valentine 4 Life” and her latest track “Live, Love, Learn” as well as some new material.  If you have not heard of Kim Davis, well get familar with this singer/songwriter because she is going to cause some serious damage in the music industry.  From when Kim first stepped on the scene in Toronto, she has created a lot of noise with her single “Hush” featuring Sizzla – which got plays out in NYC’s HOT 97. I’ve seen her perform a few times, and she is very inspiring live with her amazing voice and very humble spirit.  She is a HUSTLER at heart and has inspired women to stay positive through her music.

Most recently, “Valentine 4 Life” has been nominated in this year’s 2009 Stylus DJ Awards for Canadian R&B single of the year.
