  • Say What Now: Rihanna – Goodbye Chris Brown, Hello Drake

    rihanna-drake

Rihanna & Drake? Are you serious?

Toronto native Drake (Aubrey Graham) has been gaining a lot of buzz over the Internet (mixtapes, YouTube, etc etc) while Chris Brown seems to be last week’s new (after losing all his endorsements and many fan support). Could this polar opposite be what’s attracting RiRi to Drake?

RIHANNA is officially over Chris Brown. The Barbadian beauty showed up with a group of friends Monday at Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge on West 42nd Street, but spent most of the night locking lips with Canadian former child actor-turned-rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham. “She was drinking whiskey and apple juice and making out with him all night,” says a spy. “They were really cute together.” RIHANNA, who’s also been spending time in town with Katy Perry, peeled off with Drake at about midnight. – source Page Six

It seems like Rihanna doesn’t like wasting anytime but what is more attractive.. looks, power or b0th? I guess love doesn’t really play a huge part in this or does it? What’s your thoughts?

A few weeks ago, I wrote about The Remix Project trying raise money to save their programs and the projects – you can read here. The REMIX project is a youth arts program in Toronto that is helps young aspiring people to start their careers in the urban arts industry (Recording Arts, Creative Arts and Arts of Business). The Remix Project will be holding a fundraising event on June 11th at Circa. There will be a reception/ silent auction from 6 – 10pm and an after-party from 10pm – 3am.  You can get advance tickets for $25 at Big It Up Locations (Yorkdale, Eaton Centre, Square One), Cole (803 Queen St. W), and the Remix Project (110 Sudbury St.) Read the press release below. Hope to see you all there!!!!

    ——————–

The Remix Project, a United Nations award-winning National Crime Prevention Canada program, is holding a fundraising event on June 11, 2009 as part of efforts to help save its courses and find a new home.

The Remix Project is a successful three-year-old program funded originally through a research and pilot grant by the National Crime Prevention Canada (NCPC). The program serves gifted but under-served and vulnerable young people across the GTA through courses fostering arts, cultural and life skills. As a result of its work, The Remix Project has helped to keep a number of young people off the streets and produced talented, newly motivated individuals. Over 110 graduates have been able to realize their creative and business potentials.

The NCPC funds research and pilot programs only, and The Remix Project’s research component has ended. As such, though the NCPC believes the program is a success and would like to see it replicated in other cities, it is no longer able to continue funding. In addition, The Remix Project is seeking a new home for September 1st, since its current location will soon be transformed into condominium developments. Gavin Sheppard, the program’s co-ordinator, feels it would be a shame to see the program go. “We would hate to be put in a situation where we have to stop helping GTA youth, especially the ones who have gone through so much, who have had so many obstacles, so many barriers placed in their way and just need the right support and a simple push in the right direction” he said.

With a $100,000 goal, The Remix Project hopes its fundraising event will save the program. GIVE MONEY, MAKE CHANGE will be a multi-faceted event including photography and visual arts installations, performances, a silent auction and a pledge-driven dance.

Album Reviews: Busta Rhymes “Back On My B.S.”

    May 19.09 @ 10:35 pm

    bustarhymesbackonmybs

Busta Rhymes’ eighth studio album Back On My B.S. is FINALLY in stores TODAY. With constant push backs and being dropped from Aftermath, that didn’t stop Busta Rhymes to continue making music and letting people know that he is still on his B.S.

Back On My B.S. is very impressive as I personally didn’t think that the album would be worth listening to. WRONG! With singles like “Arab Money,” “Hustlas Anthem” and “Respect My Conglomerate”, Busta promised an album full of bangers and that’s what he did. The intro “Wheel Of Fortune” starts with an opera theme that breaks into a traditional Bussa Buss hip hop track including some yelling. The album is filled with a lot of juicy and high energy tracks like “Give Em What They Askin’ For,” “Kill Dem,” “Decisions” featuring John Legend, Common and Mary J. Blige, “World Go Round” featuring Estelle and “Sugar” featuring Jelly Roll. Busta continued to work with some of the industry’ hottest artists including John Legend, Estelle, Ron Browz, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Common, Mary J Blige and many more. So you can only expect pure greatness if you are working with those artists. I know there was some word about Kardinal Offishall being on the album as well as many other artists, I guess he didn’t make the cut. I will be looking for the unreleased tracks that were potentially suppose to be on the album. It was nice to hear the Pharrell’s production on  “Kill Dem” since I haven’t heard a “Neptunes” track in a while. “Kill Dem” caught my ears with speaking patois (speaking jamaican) on the whole track! This is a sound that Canadian have been trying to create, and Busta Rhymes KILLED it! “Sugar” is a ladies tunes while Busta finds a clever to seduce a lady.

Overall, the album deserves at least one listen and you will not be disappointed. It’s a MUST! Go to the stores NOW & go grab Busta Rhymes Back On My B.S. Peep my one favorite track on the album – “Sugar” featuring Jelly Roll.

It’s a sad day, Upcoming rapper Dolla was shot and killed in Los Angeles yesterday while was waiting in the valet area at Beverly Center Mall with a friend. The 21 years old was currently working on his solo project A Dolla and a Dream and signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik. You may remember Dolla with his 2007 track “Who The Heck Is That” featuring T-Pain & Tay Dizm.

Rapper Dolla, born Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot and killed while waiting in the valet area of the Beverly Center mall in Los Angeles on Monday (May 19). He was 21.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the up-and-coming rapper, who signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik label in 2007, had flown to Los Angeles that very morning to continue work on his oft-delayed solo debut, “A Dolla And A Dream,” which had been slated for a summer release. He went to the Beverly Center to shop, his publicist Sue Vannasing told the newspaper. After the shooting, Burton was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center a few blocks from the mall, where he died, police said.

According to the Times, the LAPD has not announced a motive for the attack or identified any official suspects, although detectives are questioning a woman they detained at the scene and a man who alleged fled in a silver Mercedes SUV after he was detained while approaching the ticketing area at the Los Angeles International Airport armed with a gun.

TMZ reports police arrested a man identified as 23-year-old Aubrey Berry at LAX after authorities issued an alert that the suspect may be headed for the airport. The airport police reportedly spotted a man who matched the description of the assailant sitting in the lobby of one of the terminals.  When police approached him, Berry said he knew why they were there, raised his hands and told them he had a 9 MM gun in his waistband.

Blake Carrington has been a man on a mission. From rapping to host parties to being a socialite in Toronto, it’s hard to keep up with his fresh hair cut and unique fashion sense inspired by the early 90’s. He most recently released his mixtape called Welcome To My World which features 24 tracks mixed with solid songs, dubs and freestyle. The mixtape is executive produced by Ron D  and mixed by JESTER. Last week, Rick Ross, Bobby Valentino, Yung Joc & Ron Browz crossed the Canadian border to perform at the Spring Ting 2009 at the Hershey Centre. Unfortunately the venue was not sold out but a solid 550+ people did come out the support the event. Hmmm more people came out to Drake’s show than Spring Ting 2009. Those statistics make you wonder. I didn’t really hear much about the show but was curious about the vibe. Thanks to my homie Kam, he was able to capture some footage from his BB and I wanted to share with the readers. Peep the videos below. Enjoy!
