I Am Hip Hop: Year ’88 Big Daddy Kane – “Ain’t No Half Steppin'”

Big Daddy Kane - Long Live The Kane

With a doubt in my mind, Big Daddy Kane is one of the greatest rappers of all time. PERIOD! He shares the list with many original emcees including Eric B. & Rakim, KRS-One, and Run DMC. In 1988, it was definitely a big year for Hip Hop featuring a lot of classics albums including Big Daddy Kane’s debut album “Long Live the Kane”. I was trying to find a live footage for “RAW” (one of BDK’s best cuts of all time) but couldn’t find a good one.

Peep one of the singles “Ain’t No Half Steppin'”  – Can you name all the original songs used in this song?

I wasn’t sure which video he was going to release considering he changed his album title and there’s a bunch of tracks from his album that are leaked all over the internet. With that said, this track is produced by Salaam Remi and comes off his most anticipated untitled ninth album set in stores for July 15, 2008. Enjoy!!!

    New Music: Jay-Z “A Billie”

So with this A Millie track by Lil Wayne taking over the mixtapes, everyone and they mother (literally) has created either a remix, a freestyle or their own version to this beat. And of course, you got Jay-Z. He had to make “A Billie” track. Why you asked? because a) he can and b) homie can actually say he has that amount or if not close to it. Peep Jay-z version.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

New Music Video: Estelle – “No Substitute Lover” / Jordin “One Step at a Time”

    Estelle “No Substitute Lover”
For those who are reggae heads like myself (well used to be reggae head) you will know that Estelle took the chorus from a classic reggae tune “I’m Not A Substitute Lover” by Half Pint. Also, she uses samples from George Michael “Faith” and Eve “Let Me Blow Your Mind”. The video features many cameos including Kelly Rowland, Project Runway Season 4 Winner Christian Siriano and T Dot’s own Kardinal Offishall. I must say I am pretty impressed with this video and Estelle is definitely making a positive name for herself!!

Jordin Sparks’s new video “One Step at a Time”

Jordin has an amazing voice and has really proven herself to be the next big thing. I am just not sure if people are really picking up on it. I mean she did win American Idol – so the people must like her. Ahh well she is still young.

I will be the first to say that I am not a big Jordin Sparks fan but “One Step at a time” is a pretty good song and the video ain’t that bad either. Peep the video and leave a comment or two .

Concert: Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys at Air Canada Centre

Alicia Keys, Ne-Yo and Jordin Sparks made a stop in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre for the “As I Am” tour. Jordin Sparks performed her hit single “No Air” while Ne-Yo performed many of his singles including “Sexy Love,” “So Sick,” and the hit single “Closer” off this upcoming third album “The Year of the Gentleman” due in stores August 2008. However, Alicia Keys stole the show with her powerful voice, musical skills and dancing. She opened the show with “Ghetto Story” leading to a range of her hit singles and songs from her last album “As I Am.”

What made the night when Alicia Keys for performed “Diary” with an upcoming “singer” Jermaine Paul who is currently Alicia’s back up singer. For those who didn’t get a chance to see this concert – you definitely missed a good one. The tour ends June 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Just like always, I did get some photos and videos until the battery died. (Died when Alicia Keys was performing “You Don’t Know My Name”.) **Word of advice: Charge camera battery before going anywhere** But definitely peep the photos and video below. Special shout outs to NZ for catching the photos and videos.

On Air: Blueprint – Lil Wayne (The Carter III)

Last night, BET presented Blueprint with Lil Wayne for his album”The Carter: III” which in my mind is the most anticipated album of the year. Big Tigger interviewed Lil Weezy and touched on areas incl. his album, love, alcohol and drugs.

I must say I LOVE Lil Wayne but… homeboy said he don’t drink alcohol because “don’t like the taste of it”. But we all know he be drinking that “Syrup” consists of cough syrup and soda and my question is.. you like the taste of that? And I Wonder…

BTW – Someone in Toronto needs to bring Lil Wayne over here :) and soon!!!

    Enjoy!!
