Little Sister – HustleGRL & Sir Lancelot presents Drake – So Far 8 Bar’d  – which is a DJ friendly mixtape. It features custom 8 bar intros which makes the transitions easy for the DJs. I remember hearing DJ Lissamonet said last week on OTA Live that she wanted Drake to tracks to have 8 bars and she got her wish.  Peep the artwork – altered by HustleGRL.com.

I wonder what’s next – instrumentals? hmmm. We will have to wait and see.

Music Videos: Wale “Chillin'” featuring Lady Gaga

The video I have been waiting for is finally here. Wale released his new music video “Chillin'” featuring Lady Gaga off his upcoming album Attention Deficit. “Chillin'” is directed by power director Chris Robinson keeping a clear focus and staying true to what the track is about. Thank god Lady Gaga is not running up and down this video but it would of killed the vibe. Basic concept + cool shots = Great video.

Wale is now part of the Roc Nation family so I am curious to see what Jay has in store for him. We will have to wait and see.  Peep the video.

Soundscan Update: Emimem Remains at No. 1 & Electrik Red debuts at No. 100

    June 3.09 @ 1:53 pm

Soundscan updates from May 26 – June 2nd

Eminem Relapse remains at the No. 1  on Soundscan selling 210, 984 bringing a total of 819,228. He is on his way to hitting platinum which the next two weeks. Electrik Red How To Be A Lady: Volume 1 debuts at No. 100 selling a disappointing 4,963 units. Those sales look good in Canada but not in the U.S. Other artists –  Method Man & Redman Blackout 2 sold 20.481 bringing them to the No. 18 spot while Busta Rhymes Back On My B.S sold 16,714 units pushing him to No. 22. DJ Drama Gangsta Grillz – The Album Vol. 2 went down 40 spots from No. 26 to No. 66 selling 7,442.

In Canada, Eminem Relapse still holds the No.1 spot selling 23, 115 copies (86,946 total). Congratulations to Eminem he is on his way to becoming Platinum in Canada.  Method Man & Redman Blackout 2 dropped to the No. 31 spot selling 1,472 copies while Busta Rhymes Back On My B.S sold 1,129 units bringing him to No. 46.

Again another successful week for Eminem making Relapse the biggest hip hop album for 2009 so far. The buzz is still going and I wonder how much he will sell next week after the publicity stunt that happened at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. The Dream’s super female group Electrik Red did not have a successful week but where did Electrik Red go wrong? Lack of promotions? Weak First Single? – What can Electrik Red do to generate more sales? We will have to see..

Events: Day Four – 2009 Stylus DJ Awards Recap

    June 3.09 @ 11:11 am
    Posted By: admin

The 4th Annual Stylus DJ Awards were held last night (June 1st) at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto. Over 1300 people – many industry peers and fans filled the auditorium to watch their favorite DJs get recognized and performances from some of the hottest artists in Toronto.

The show opened with the founders of the Stylus Group –  David “Click” Cox, Mike Zafaris and Nigel Ong as they said a few words welcoming everyone to the awards.  Jahvon, opened the show with DJ Starting From Scratch to perform “Class In Session” and my favorite “Hypebeast” getting everyone amped about the awards show. Before the first award was given, Trixx & RG (who hosted the previous Stylus DJ Awards) decided to give out an award of their own as they felt Stylus DJ Awards forgot a category –  most “teefing” promoter. Trixx sent a public message to all the promoters to make sure the DJS are paid!

This year’s awards was hosted by Matte Babel from MuchMusic & CityTV and Arisa Cox from E! News. IllKidz tried something new with the awards as they did a mix collaboration with The KidFamous, Luu Breeze and Page who all showed Toronto why we are the Best. Each artist tore down the house with their high energy performances. Andreena Mill and Saukratees performed the Canadian R&B single of the year “You, Me and Tomorrow”. In closing, Danny Fernandes gave a full stage show performing “Fantasy”.

Jester led the DJs winners circle with two awards (College Radio Show of the Year along with Chief and Soca DJ of the Year). There’s a reason why he calls himself the most versatile DJ. (Take Notes). Kardinal Offishall also won two awards for both Canadian and International Hip Hop Single of the Year for his single “Dangerous” featuring Akon.

The YF&N Highlights from the night – Kid Kut laughing at Trixx’s joke about KLC. For those who missed the awards, Stylus Group and TOFLO.com/stylus did a live interview session with the nominees and award winners. I got a chance to check out the live feed, and it looked amazing. Last but not least, special thanks to the Stylus Group and sponsors who made this event possible.

Check out the 2009 Stylus DJ Awards Winners:

Underground DJ Of The Year – DJ Grouch (Toronto)

College Radio Show Of The Year – Jester & Chief – Worldwide Wake-Up Show CIUT 89.5FM (Toronto)

Mixtape Of The Year – Agile – Toronto Love Jay (Toronto)

Club MC Of The Year – Kid Kut (Toronto)

Events: Stylus Spinfest: Day Three – 2009 Stylus Awards BBQ & Trivia

    June 3.09 @ 4:48 am
    Posted By: admin

On Sunday May 31st, 2009 Stylus Award BBQ & trivia took place at the Montana’s in Downtown Toronto. Although, it wasn’t perfect BBQ weather, the sun was out and about but wind didn’t want to go away. (booo). All the nominees and sponsors were there in effect to listen to some great music provided by DJ Grouch, LRS, Charlie Brown of Legacy Sound and DJ PPlus, eat some food and of course, to connect and reconnect with friends. It was nice to have such a positive vibe in the room and of course, everyone was enjoying themselves.

Before the trivia, Click announced the top 3 artists in the “Who Got Next” series. Third Place is DJ Knowledge ft. Slick Life and Cory Lee “Can’t Stop “Hey DJ)” , second place is Bad New Brown “Back On It” from Montreal and first place goes to Jhevon Paris “Top of the Line ” featuring Colby O’Donis. Congratulations to all the artists who made the Who Got Next compilation.

Later in the evening, the classic trivia challenge took place where your favorite DJs and  Promoters battle out to see which team is the best and to show how much they know about music. Although some of the questions may seem easy, but once you are under pressure it is a different story. CONTINUE READING>>>

Events: Stylus Spinfest Day Two: It’s Starts With The DJ 2.0 Conference

    June 3.09 @ 4:36 am

NOTE: I want to apologize for the lack of updates. The team have been busy with the Stylus Spinfest & Stylus Awards.

On Saturday May 30th, the Stylus Group held their 2nd Annual It’s Starts with the DJ 2.0 Conference at Home Nightclub.  The event was hosted by OTA Live’s own Ty Harper and Rez Digital. This is a great information session for artists, djs, promoters and etc who just wanted to get some information regarding this music industry. The panelists include Neil Forester (Management: Baby Yu, Owner: Mass Appeal & The Substance Group,  Abby Tobias (DJ, President: Soul Power Productions, Scratchlab & Six Degrees Event Venue, Keys N’ Krates, Eh team DJ’s), Adrian Strong (DMD Promo – Radio Promo), Baba Kahn (DJ, Promoter, Owner: Scratchlab & Soulshock Marketing Group), Wristpect (DJ, Sole Proprietor), Stephane Lecuyer (Full Capacity Concerts – CEO / National Concerts & Events Promoter), Tony Sal (CEO – CP Records). Each panelist gave useful information from the financial and accounting to way how to “brand” and market yourself. BRANDING is very important!!

In the second session, the NETWORKING hour took place where guests had one-on-one interviews with the advisors where they have the opportunity ask anything from providing feedback on their music or just networking. The main key is to NETWORK. You can not go wrong with networking with anyone and everyone. As Click said, the person beside you may be the person that can help you.

In the last hour, DJ Drama did a one on one interview with OTA Live (Ty Harper & Rez Digital) to discuss about the music industry in the ATL and gave few pointers of how we can improve our music scene in Toronto. Peep some of the interview below.

This is the ckip that everyone is talking about that happened at the MTV Movie Awards last night. It appears in the opening scene of the awards, Sasha Cohen (actor in “Borat”) is flying through over the audience as Bruno to promote his upcoming movie “Bruno”. As he decides to go down lower, he lands right on top of Eminem, while Sasha’s ass is in Eminem’s face. Eminem was not impress or please with what is going on, so Eminem’s boys work hard to remove Sasha from Eminem. After Eminem is free from Sasha, pissed – Eminem then storms out and leave.  The worst mistake Sasha Cohen could do. Keep in mind, this was unscripted. You have to see it for yourself. Peep below.
